Job Summary:

Under administrative direction, uses extensive knowledge and skills obtained through education and experience to develop and implement strategy for showcasing company success stories, executives, experts and industry leadership. Leads large or multiple projects with significant scope and impact. Works independently on difficult assignments that are broad in nature requiring originality and ingenuity with appreciable latitude for unreviewed actions or decisions. Supports the director of corporate communications in issue management and other related efforts. 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Translates business strategy into work programs and processes.
  • Directs lower-level managers or team leaders or directly manages a specialty function.
  • Cultivates and manages relationships with core business, trade and local media to increase quality and quantity of exposure, and manage company image.
  • Participates in message development, delivery and monitoring.
  • Develops strategic, proactive media plans.
  • Composes and initiates press releases; provides editorial support for corporate earnings releases.
  • Works with senior managers and or directors to develop and oversee issue management communications.
  • Develops story ideas, actively pitch to members of the press and secure placement.
  • Manages media inquiries.
  • Acts as company spokesperson as appropriate.
  • Responsible for full utilization of technology for contact management, activity tracking and news monitoring.
  • Measures effectiveness of public relations efforts and oversees preparation of related management reports.
  • Directs inception, placement and dissemination of significant external communications including position statements and press releases.
  • Oversees relationships with external public relations agencies.
  • Assists in implementing media training program for company spokespeople.
  • Prepares spokespeople with appropriate media research and issue background as appropriate.
  • Participates in development of media resources including online press site and print collateral as appropriate.
  • Ensures placement on rankings/lists targets for the company.
  • Effectively interacts with firm's senior management team, as well as with financial advisors and business partners.
  • Represents the marketing department and/or company at internal and external conferences.
  • Performs human resource management activities, including identifying performance problems and approving recommendations for remedial action; evaluating performance; and interviewing and selecting staff. 
  • Plans, assigns, monitors, reviews, evaluates and leads the work of assigned staff.
  • Coaches and mentors staff and identifies training needs and creates development plans.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • Public Relations software proficiency to add, monitor and employ data.
  • Corporate or Government Public Relation Plans
  • Community Relations
  • Advanced principals of the financial services industry in order to support communication needs at all levels.
  • Advanced concepts, practices and procedures of marketing and financial services industry regulations.
  • Issues and media impacting the financial services industry.
  • Operating standard office equipments and using required software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint sufficient to create documents, spreadsheets, e-mails and presentations.

Skill in:
  • Advanced concepts, practices and procedures of corporate public relations.
  • Managing time sufficient to handle multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines and changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Developing strategy including identifying objectives, defining requirements and developing a structure for accomplishing objectives successfully.
  • Building and maintaining rewarding media relationships.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in communications, marketing, business management or related field and a minimum of (5) five to (7) seven years of experience in the media relations or related activities; journalism, broadcast media and/or a public relations agency.  Proven story placements required.

Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.
 
Licenses/Certifications:
FINRA Series 7 license or the ability to obtain within one year of hire.
